Alex Whitfield is an Auckland based designer of furniture, lighting and objects. Working with a range of materials from ceramics to steel, his work intersects the lines between functional design and sculpture, offering a refined and elegant take on daily objects. An industrial designer by trade, his use of materials and craftsmanship ensure a long-lasting life, and allow the pieces to slot seamlessly into a range of contemporary interior styles.

The ceramic ‘Wonky’ vase offers an intriguing form, centred around simple geometry. A wider base ensures stability while the height and narrow neck ensures an upright stem position, perfect for use with dried or freshly cut flowers. The scale lends itself to some other practical uses too, such as a sculptural water jug or storage for those key utensils in the kitchen.
