Designed in 1925, The Wassily chair was inspired by a bicycle frame. It is made of curving tubes of steel and leather slings that create a seat that is ergonomic and comfortable, yet still highly sculptural and minimal in form.

Also known as the Model B3, the chair was named Wassily some years after its conception by an Italian manufacturer who heard that Wassily Kandinsky (who also taught at the Bauhaus) had admired the prototype and received a handmade version from Breuer.

Possibly the most recognisable and iconic modernist chair, The chrome and leather construction has remained timeless and kept the Wassily at the forefront of interior trends almost 100 years after it’s first production.

Often replicated, these original versions were produced by Gavina in Italy, who took over the manufacturing after WW2. In 1968, Gavina was acquired by Knoll, who remains the current licensed producer. While Gavina chairs were only labelled with a sticker on the underside of the seat (which rarely sticks around long), the authenticity stems from a number of other subtle details which we are happy to discuss.
