Vintage Red NZ Post Office Box module
Maker: Unknown [ NZ ]
Year: 1970-90s
Size: L 915 x D 395 x H 640 [ 24 compartments ]
Condition report: Vintage condition. Surfaces show wear and paint chipping in places, some bending from when the boxes were removed. some locks drilled, some still locked. selection of keys included [although we can’t get them to open doors, possibly blanks ]. Reach out for detailed images.
.
A great example of New Zealand’s mid-century postal design, this welded steel PO box module dates from the late 1970s to early 1990s [ a period that marked the transformation of the national postal system from a government department to the corporatised New Zealand Post ].
Constructed in heavy-gauge steel and finished in the signature bright Post Office red, these units once lined the lobbies of suburban post offices across the country.
Removed from the Devonport Post Shop, this section represents the final generation of all-steel PO box modules used in service, bridging the era between the government-run Post Office and the modern NZ Post network.
Both functional and historical, it stands as a tangible relic of the country’s shift from public service infrastructure to contemporary postal commerce, as well as a practical home storage solution for a range of smaller items.
open access from the rear, and access from the front behind each door. Some doors are still locked and some have been drilled out, we’ve left these as they were for now.
